Effectively preparing your wound
After your wound assessment, the next step in your management is wound preparation. In order to help your wound to heal, you will need to remove any of the physical barriers that may be preventing or slowing down the healing process.
In order to prepare your wound you will need to remove any previous dressing and dispose of it in your household waste, these products cannot be reused. You may have heard this being referred to as cleansing and debridement. Alprep Pad is a cleansing and debridement tool. Prior to using Alprep Pad, you will need to moisten the pad with a cleansing solution or water as recommended to you by your healthcare professional. Once you have moistened the pad, squeeze out any excess liquid. You are now ready to use this on the wound bed, edge and surrounding skin.
Starting with dark grey side of the pad of the Alprep Pad, in the centre of your wound in a circular motion work your way out to the wound edges and surrounding skin. Once you have used the dark side of the Alprep Pad to loosten any debris, turn the pad over to the light grey side with slits to capture and remove this debris. Once you've finished preparing your wound, dispose of the Alprep Pad in your household waste.
Preparation of your wound has now taken place and by doing this you have contributed to creating an optimal healing environment. You are now ready to apply a dressing to your wound.
